Richard Pryor was in every movie in the the 80's because he was the white man's black man like Denzel Washington or Will Smith. America knew he was black and expected him to be angry sometimes about the slavery/oppression/racism/ thing but as long as they let one man represent their "acknowledgement" of that, then they could feel better about their bigoted selves.
Either that or he was just really funny and entertaining. And what's with Chris Mills' reference to Pryor in that song... burning on sunset blvd.?
