24 Episode Summary: Day 5, Hour 2

HOUR TWO

The surveillance videos from buildings surrounding the Palmer apartment are streaming into CTU and being analyzed. Edgar, Bill Buchanan, and Audrey Raines are going through the information. One video shows a man breaking through a locked door. That man is Jack Bauer.

Full summary after the jump.

Jack tells Chloe about the Magic Dealer framing him for Palmer’s death. The best place to go to clear Jack’s name? Into the Lion’s Den. Palmer Lite’s (Wayne’s) apartment. Chloe can get a security grid of the building from a laptop to help him get past Secret Service agents. Derek, The Token Teenager (TTT) doesn’t want to go. Jack persuades him saying, “The only reason you’re still conscious is because I don’t want to carry you." It works.

Back at CTU, Audrey explains the obvious: Jack would never hurt his friends. Even if he was trying to cover his tracks from the "death." No one sees this obvious point because they all saw some grainy video and if you see it on tv it MUST be true! Edgar Loves Chloe! Edgar goes off on Spencer for not being concerned about her. Because Jack is "dangerous," CTU puts out an alert for his capture.

Audrey calls President Logan about Jack being the primary suspect for the assassination. Weasley Walt wants to warn the Russian President that he could also be a target. Logan acts like a spoiled teenager, "DADDY! No one's gonna SPOIL MY SUMMIT! He refuses any changes to the upcoming meeting.

A shady looking guy finds the Magic Dealer (aka Haas...like that name will matter) at the refinery. He calls his "boss" to tell him about Haas's death. The boss has an American accent and a big head. Not egotistical (though probably that as well), but just a large head that takes up a lot of space. He's in a large format HDTV screen dealership. Okay, not really but it looks like that. The Big Head says to let CTU get Bauer. They've got a "launch" in an hour.

Jack checks the terrorist's van. There's some primo equipment in there. Diane the Hot Landlady calls to check on TTT. Everything's fine. Lemonaide and daffodils! Chloe, Jack, and TTT head to Palmer Lite's apartment and park in the underground garage where Chloe hacks into the security system letting her access the location of every agency member in the building. He sees an FBI agent in the garage, goes up and attacks him behind his car. Derek gets concerned. Chloe "comforts" him. "Relax. He's really good at this." Yep. This boy will never let a drop of testosterone get near his Mom ever again.

Jack, lightly disguised in an FBI jacket, enters the building and then Palmer Lite's apartment. FBI and Secret Service agents swarm everywhere and by the window under a plain white sheet lays David Palmer. Only his hand, the hand scarred from the attempt on his life years ago, is in view. Jack SAD. Jack ANGRY! Jack goes into Palmer Lite's office to check the computer.

Meanwhile, Chloe and Derek have some small talk. Back story recap for those just joining 24 (already in progress). Jack gave up everything including his daughter to fake his death and go into hiding.

Back where the plot is moving, Jack finds an encrypted document. Palmer Lite (Wayne) enters but before he can react, Jack takes him. Palmer Lite freaks out. Jack tries to convince him that he would NEVER kill David. Palmer Lite is not convinced leading Jack to play a little "trust game." No, not falling backwards into his arms. He hands him the gun and returns to the computer. Palmer Lite gives in and helps Jack. Palmer Lite tells Jack about David's strange behaviour this morning. After discovering that the encrypted document is the first chapter of David's memoir. Jack and Palmer Lite go on to compare the hard copy of the chapter and the file.

At CTU, Edgar continues to worry about about Chloe (Edgar Loves Chloe!). Sexy Spencer begins to give in and apologize. He attempts to use Chloe's access code but it shows that she has already logged in. She's alive. Edgar tells Bill about his "true love"'s location and Secret Service gets called.

The only difference between David's hard copy and file versions of his memoir is an address and name inserted into the middle of a sentence. It leads to the Ontatio Airport (That's in L.A. despite those nasty Canada rumours of the past) and a baggage handler named Chevensky. Suddenly, the agents in the building change positions. They've been found. Jack's got to get out of the building, but without Palmer Lite's help. And without Chloe's either. CTU shuts down her access.

Jack makes it to the van only for it to be surrounded by Secret Service agents. The van makes a break for it, crashing through blockades and agents. Chloe's a damn good stunt driver! But she's stopped. Agents pull her out but Jack and TTT are nowhere to be found and Chloe refuses to tell them or Bill anything besides professing Jack's innocence. To a holding cell with you!

TTT (Derek) and Jack break into a car and start to drive. Of course this is a time for some more small talk. TTT's pissed that Jack lied to him and his hot mom because saying that he had to fake his death wasn't good enough!

Meanwhile in the Nuthouse, Logan brings the recording of the conversation to Martha. He plays it and proves NOTHING of her story. He comforts her saying that not taking her medication is messing with her memory. Of course. Blame everything on the medication when it has to do with a person with a mental illness. OF COURSE.

Some chatter says that this anti-terrorism summit between President Logan and the Russians could be a target. Ultimately, the Russian President's landing goes flawlessly (but produces a very nice tense split-screen scene).

Jack and TTT arrive at the airport and have one last moment for small talk (too...much...small...talk!). Jack's sorry for lying, TTT's a good kid, blah de blah! Diane the hot Landlady is there and Jack tells them his real name. This is somehow immediately accepted even after TTT's continuous questioning while his life is in danger. Jack tells them to go to CTU and tell them the truth. Jack goes into the airport.

TTT and Diane are about to leave when TTT sees men jumping out of a strange van. NOW he's on Jack's side! He's GOT to warn him! Of course. No Token Teenager. Don't. He does leaving Diane the hot Landlady at the car annoying the traffic cop.

Jack finds the man mentioned in David's memoir and asks him what's going on.

BOOM! The van outside the airport explodes. This distracts Jack long enough for Chevensky to pop a cyanide pill and die (which we haven't really seen since season 2). Shots ring out as the terrorists kill the airport guards and gather the hostages together. Diane freaks outside.

Weasely Walt tells Nathanson (The Big Head in the HDTV Dealership) that the Palmer tape has been altered covering his tracks. The Big Head tells him the airport has been seized. Somewhere, Montgomery Burns says "Excellent."

BEEP-BOOP. BEEP-BOOP.
